Sources
A source is a way for a sending system to get messages to NEEV. Each source sends into a feed, so its messages run through that feed's pipeline and appear in Messages with the source named as the way they arrived.

The Sources page with five sources switched on
Choose a kind
| Kind | Use it when | The sender… | How messages arrive |
|---|---|---|---|
| MLLP listener | The clinic has an interface engine or PAS that speaks HL7 over TCP | connects to a port and sends framed HL7 | Pushed, answered with an HL7 ACK on the same connection |
| Webhook | The system can make an HTTPS request | posts each message to a private address with a key | Pushed, answered with an HTTP status |
| SFTP or FTP folder | The system writes files, often batches of results | drops files in a folder | Read every few minutes, or when you press Poll now |
| Database table | The system writes messages to an outbox table | inserts rows | Read every few minutes, in order, from where it left off |
All kinds behave the same once a message is in: the same pipeline, the same mapping, the same delivery, retries and alerts.
The page at a glance
- Sources, On, Messages in and Need a look count the workspace's sources. Need a look counts sources whose last poll failed or whose port is in use.
- The Sources list shows each source, its kind, the feed it sends into and how many messages it has brought in. The switch turns it on or off; the bin removes it.
- Select a source to see its details on the right: its address, how it signs in, its latest poll or listener status, and the buttons to test it.
Rules every source follows
- New sources start off. Add it, test it, then switch it on. A sender that tries while the source is off is told to hold the message and try again later, so nothing is lost.
- A source sends into one feed. Pick it under Send messages into. Your workspace's project feeds are listed first, then the built-in feeds.
- Secrets are never shown again. Passwords, private keys and webhook keys are stored encrypted. The page only shows that one is saved.
- Nothing is read twice. Files are moved out of the folder once read, and tables are read from the last row seen.
- Removing a source keeps its messages. Messages already in Messages stay there.
